In the tropical coastal setting in Mozambique an increasing number of extreme weather events have made this context particularly vulnerable to climate change. High income inequality combined with a growing population add to social pressures. People tend to consume too much of one type of food – e.g. maize, cassava, rice and wheat, or ultra-processed foods, which are inexpensive and filling, but lacking in vital micronutrients and food-borne diseases are highly prevalent.
